The General Assembly has adopted a resolution on the organization of the UN Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development. The resolution acknowledges that the UN plays an important role in the "ongoing international discussions" on reform and strengthening of the international financial and economic system. However, member states have not given the conference a clear mandate to make reform decisions. This Global Policy Forum document describes the contentious issues that arose during the negotiations and points out how these impact the conference.
